Description: City Dray Equipment 1910, owned and operated by Vic Selders, in front of the Yale Hotel
On left: 17 year old, Ray Selder (son of Vic), team is Bud & Nel, this light wagon was used mainly for the hauling of the mail to and from the four trains daily. The dray line also hauled all freight ad supplies from the depot to the various business houses. Roy Selder moved to Hunters, WA.
Light stake wagon in the center driver unknown, team is Buck & Brownie.
On sprinkler wagon is Leo English, he drove for Selders for several years then moved to a farm near Colville, team is Ches & Baldy, this water wagon was built in Chewelah and served for many years. Man on sidewalk with the bike is Vic Selder.
The City Dray Line was sold to Jarvis and Jarvis in 1911. The Selders moved to a farm about a mile north of Chewelah.
Next to the Yale, the first wooden building, orginally the Emblem Saloon from Embry, and for a time Kelly's Saloon, at the time of this picture it was a, General Merchandise store owed by D.L. Toner (the sign out front).
The next building (brick) was the store of Ranney and Bernard, then came the California Win House, next was the Dickey Building occupied by A.F. Strobe, real estate. McPherson Building (brick) is next and became the Foos Hdw for many years.
On the corner is the First National Bank building.
Across 2nd street is another wooden building moved down from Embry (, became Jeffreys Drug Store, next two lots were vacant except for a bandstand. Next was the bakery and restaurant of Mrs. Wright and last on the corner was the Kieling Confectionary store owned at this time by Chapman, Across the street is the Pomeroy which became the Leuer Building. The last buildings you see between the horses, the Vienna Bakery and the last one was the Bennington apartments, more resent the Carpenter Boarding Home.
